For weeks, rumors and leaks about the highly anticipated OPPO Find N5, the world’s thinnest book-style foldable, have been circulating online. For the past couple of days, I’ve been lucky enough to have been using the device. After spending time with the OPPO Find N5, I can testify that the OPPO Find N5 is the first book-style foldable that I actually want to carry around every day, and you will too.

Beyond the fact that the OPPO Find N5 is incredibly thin and lightweight, even more amazing is the fact that OPPO hasn’t made any compromises to keep the Find N5 this svelte. To that effect, nearly every aspect of the Find N5 screams flagship, down to its impressive camera array.

Measuring 8.93mm closed and 4.21mm when open, the OPPO Find N5 is the world’s thinnest book-style foldable—equating in thickness to a stack of 4 to 5 credit cards when open. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 measures 6.04mm when opened.

Heck, the OPPO Find N5 is barely thicker than its USB-C port when open. It’s also incredibly light, weighing in at 229 g. When I first picked up the OPPO Find N5, I was completely taken aback by how thin and lightweight it is.

For several years now, my primary phone has been a foldable—but specifically one with a flip form factor because book-style folds have always been too bulky and heavy for them to be practical for me to carry around. The OPPO Find N5 changes all that. It’s the first book-style foldable that doesn’t feel too unwieldy or heavy to hold for large periods of time. It’s also the first book-style fold I can see myself using every day, and I’m sure other people will feel the same way too once they get a hold of it, which is in part why this device is so groundbreaking.

Despite being so thin and lightweight, the OPPO Find N5 is made to last and easy to grip. It features flat, contoured metal sides that allow for a secure grip and make it easy to open. It also feels quite natural to hold in your hand when closed.

The OPPO Find N5 is the world’s first IPX9 foldable—and the first foldable with IPX6 and IPX8 ratings. Its hinge has been completely redesigned and is more durable now thanks to its titanium flexion hinge. More specifically, the hinge size has been reduced by 26%, yet it’s 36% more durable. Its inner display features an armor shield and improved shock resistance by 70%.

Ok, you get it, the OPPO Find N5 tough and built to last. But what’s really impressive is that you simply can’t see the inner display’s crease! Many foldables claim to be creaseless, but the OPPO Find N5 actually delivers. Its crease is 10% narrower and 50% shallower than its predecessor, the Find N3.

The OPPO Find N5’s bezel is also a lot less distracting than what you’ll find on other similarly sized folds and tablets, especially in comparison to the likes of the iPad Mini. It’s a pleasure to use the OPPO Find N5 for everything from watching movies to multitasking. Its boundless view setting allows for a full-screen experience for many apps.

The OPPO Find N5 is available in 2 colors: cosmic black with a silky finish and misty white, both of which are fingerprint-resistant. A slim case with a faux leather finish is included in the box.

Its camera features a cosmos ring design that has been crafted from stainless steel that is 10% slimmer than the previous generation.

I do have one minor gripe with the Find N5’s design, and that is that the camera button is located too high up on the side of the device, but I’m nitpicking here.

Speaking of cameras—when it comes to cameras, most foldables typically struggle when it comes to photography, but the OPPO Find N5 has inherited OPPO’s phenomenal Hassleblad camera chops from OPPO’s flagship Find X8 series.

You can definitely see the heritage from the Find X8 series’ camera has trickled down to the OPPO Find N5, however, it’s still not a replacement for the Find X8 Pro. Overall, I’ve found that the OPPO Find N5 is able to produce some very good photos.

The Find N5 does feature the same telescope zoom as found on the Find X8 series, so you can take some incredible lossless 6X zoom photos.

It’s also capable of telemacro photography, where you can focus as close as 10 cm. And of course, Hassleblad portrait mode is very good. Ultimately, the camera system on the OPPO Find N5 is a truly capable one and above average for a book-style fold.

When it comes to performance, the OPPO Find N5 is the first foldable powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, and that’s alongside 16GB / 512GB storage. This fold is a powerhouse that could easily replace your tablet and laptop on the go.

Its battery is a 5600 mAh battery that offers better than daylong power, and it can be charged fully in 47 minutes. It also offers the fastest wireless charging of any foldable device.

I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the Find N5 comes with dual physical SIM slots plus eSIM support. There’s also support for a pen, although I haven’t gotten a hold of one yet to try it out.

And similarly to how the OnePlus 13 Pro offers cases that are MagSafe compatible, the OPPO Find N5 is following suit with cases that are MagSafe compatible.

And who says we all can’t get along? The OPPO Find X8 series introduced easy iOS / Android file sharing. The Find N5 series levels up by enabling 2-way sharing with iOS and MacOS devices using the O+ Connect app.

To that effect, OPPO is releasing the O+ Connect app for Macs, which means that for the first time ever, getting files shared between a Mac and an Android phone isn’t a total pain. The app emulates your Mac’s screen on the Find N5 in real-time, effectively turning the Find N5 into a mini Mac screen when folded in laptop mode, with a trackpad that supports multi-touch and multitasking. You can do things like share from the Mac screen to WhatsApp on the Find N5 using drag and drop.

Bottom line

OPPO has long led the foldable market, and the Find N5 redefines the book-style foldable, making it more practical and enjoyable than ever. Ultimately, the OPPO Find N5 wipes the floor with the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 and other competition when it comes to just about every aspect—especially design. It even offers unprecedented Mac file sharing and screen mirroring features.

The world’s thinnest foldable is everything a book-style foldable should be. It’s packed with flagship features despite being super thin and lightweight.

As usual, our biggest disappointment with OPPO’s foldables is that they aren’t readily available in the U.S. Our hope is that U.S. users will be able to get hold of its innovations down the line from OnePlus, with the next-gen OnePlus Open.
