The full list of new titles coming to Netflix this coming April has been released, and it includes a number of exciting original movies of different genres.
Arriving on the streamer on April 2nd is the Western drama film Concrete Cowboy starring The Wire’s Idris Elba and Stranger Things’ Caleb McLaughlin. Based upon the novel Ghetto Cowboy by Greg Neri, the movie follows a rebellious 15-year-old boy (McLaughlin) from Detroit who is sent to live with his estranged father (Elba) in Philadelphia and learns about the local tight-knit community of Black cowboys.
Superhero comedy film Thunder Force, meanwhile, is set to premiere on Netflix on April 9th. Written and directed by Ben Falcone, the movie centers on two childhood best friends who become an unlikely crime-fighting duo. When scientist Emily Stanton (Octavia Spencer) accidentally imbues her estranged best friend Lydia (Melissa McCarthy) with incredible abilities, the two women must work together to save Chicago from super-powered villains.
A concert movie in honor of Dolly Parton will also be available to stream on Netflix starting April 7th. Titled Dolly Parton: A MusiCares Tribute, the film features performances from some of the biggest stars in the music industry as they pay tribute to the titular country icon who was named the MusiCares Person of the Year in 2019.
Other Netflix original films debuting next month include the sci-fi movie Stowaway (April 22nd) and the horror flick Things Heard and Seen (April 29th). Starring Anna Kendrick, Stowaway follows a Mars-bound spaceship crew who discovers an accidental stowaway shortly after takeoff. Too far from Earth to turn back and with resources quickly dwindling, the ship’s medical researcher (Kendrick) emerges as the only dissenting voice against the group consensus that has already decided in favor of a grim outcome.
Things Heard and Seen, meanwhile, stars Amanda Seyfried and James Norton as a Manhattan couple who moves to a historic hamlet in the Hudson Valley and come to discover that their marriage has sinister darkness, one that rivals their new home’s history. It is based on the acclaimed novel All Things Cease to Appear by Elizabeth Brundage.
On the series front, Netflix is dropping the sitcom Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! on April 14th. It stars Jamie Foxx as Brian Dixon who enlists the help of his father, sister, and best friend when his teenage daughter comes to live with him.
