This month, a slew of premium phones have been announced running on the powerful Snapdragon 8 gen 1 platform, and Motorola isn’t sitting on the sidelines. To that effect, today the company is announcing their Motorola edge+ (2022), their latest addition to the Motorola edge series.

The Motorola edge+ (2022) is of course powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform which provides 30% more power and 25% more efficiency than the previous flagship platform when it comes to gaming, and up to up to 4x faster performance when it comes to running apps. Furthermore, the phone comes running a clean version of Android 12 without bloatware apps or software skins.

On the display front, the new edge+ packs in a 6.7″ Max Vision OLED display with a full HD resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate. But what’s extra special about this display is that it supports Motorola’s first smart stylus with an adaptable folio that is designed for the edge+. Unfortunately, the folio with the smart stylus is being sold separately.

When it comes to battery life, the device packs in a 4800mAh battery and it supports 15W TurboPower wireless charging. The phone’s 5G support is powered by a Snapdragon X65 Modem RF-System and it has support for Gigabit speeds using Wi-Fi 6E.

In terms of camera, the phone comes with a triple high-res camera with OIS and instant all-pixel focus technology. The rear-facing camera includes a 50MP ultra-wide lens which claims to offer better-than-average wide-angle shots in terms of brightness and sharpness in low light – which are areas that ultra-wide lenses often struggle with.

The camera also has built-in MacroVision, which brings you 4x closer to an object, allowing you to take shots as close as 2.5cm away. When it comes to selfies, the Edge+ packs in a 60MP selfie camera that is composed of Quad Pixel technology that combines every four pixels into one for 4x better low-light sensitivity.

The phone is unusual in that it also supports Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform, which means that Lenovo’s A3 ThinkReality smart glasses can be used with it.

Motorola edge+ (2022) pricing and availability

The Motorola edge+ will be available unlocked for $899.99 at Amazon, and Motorola.com. For a limited time only, you can get $100 off of the device. In the coming months, the Edge+ will become available at Verizon, Boost Mobile, and Republic Wireless.

Overall, the specs on the Motorola edge+ are very solid on paper, but it seems like the pricing might be too high to effectively compete with the onslaught of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powered smartphones coming out from the likes of Samsung, OnePlus, etc. If Motorola can keep the price down at $799, we think the device would be that much more compelling.
