UPDATE: The Marvel United Kickstarter reached its full funding goal of $150,000 in just 31 minutes after it went live. As of 1:00 a.m. ET of February 12th, over 6500 fans have already backed the campaign, with a total pledge of around $420,000.

ORIGINAL STORY: The first-ever Marvel game on Kickstarter is now live.

Called Marvel United, this tabletop card game is a collaboration between children’s entertainment company Spin Master Games and tabletop games publisher CMON Limited.

A top-secret project that has been in development for almost two years, Marvel United is an entirely new board game with original gameplay, built from the ground up by award-winning and cult-favorite game designers Eric Lang (Blood Rage, Cthulhu: Death May Die, Rising Sun) and Andrea Chiarvesio (Kingsburg).

The ultimate collector’s item for Marvel superfans, Marvel United includes cards featuring completely original, never-before-seen “chibi-style” artwork of Marvel heroes and villains, and CMON-detailed miniatures of fan-favorite characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Suitable for ages 14 and up, Marvel United is a fast-paced, cooperative game for two to four players. After setting up the Mission Board, players select one of three included villains (Red Skull, Taskmaster and Ultron) to battle. Each player then choose a hero from the five included options (Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain Marvel and Black Widow) and plays their hero’s unique powers from the Hero Card against the villain. If the players solve the mission and defeat the villain, everyone wins. But if the villain completes their masterplan, the heroes all lose.

Backers who pledge $60 or more will receive the ultimate fan edition of the game if the project is funded, including the Marvel United core box and all applicable stretch goal rewards unlocked throughout the campaign. At launch, every $60+ backer will receive three additional Kickstarter-exclusive miniatures (Nick Fury, Hawkeye and Corvus Glaive). A Kickstarter-exclusive expansion pack featuring The Infinity Gauntlet is also available as an add-on for $30.

The Kickstarter is a 22-day campaign that will be live through Wednesday, March 4th. If the project reaches its funding goal of $150,000, the core box will be delivered to backers at the same time the game becomes available in retail stores this fall, with any applicable stretch goals and Kickstarter exclusive rewards to be shipped soon after.
