Who are the stars of MCU’s Fantastic Four film?

On February 14, 2024, Valentine’s Day, Marvel announced the actors that will play the titular characters of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Fantastic Four. The cast announcement came in the form of a Valentine’s Day-themed artwork released on Marvel Studiossocial media accounts.

In the comic book-style artwork, we see Pedro Pascal as Reed Richard / Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm / Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / The Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / The Thing.

Created by Wesley Burt, the artwork also features a new Fantastic Four logo that has a style reminiscent of the 1960s, the decade when the Fantastic Four first appeared in comics and formed the cornerstone of the Marvel Universe.

What will the new Fantastic Four Marvel movie be about?

Details about the film’s plot are being kept under wraps, but based on the artwork above, one could speculate that it will be a period piece set in the 1960s or at least include some scenes from that time.

The movie’s director, Matt Shakman, previously said that the new Fantastic Four film will be massively different from the previous big-screen projects that starred the superhero quartet. “It’s different in so many ways. I wish I could be specific,” Shakman told Collider in October 2023. “I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you’ve seen before.”

It is expected that the upcoming movie will put Marvel’s first family at the center of the MCU, as Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige previously shared that the goal of the film is to put the Fantastic Four back in the limelight. “Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics,” Feige told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s certainly been versions of it [on screen], but never inhabiting the storytelling of the MCU. And that’s something that is really exciting for us.”

Feige pointed out that Marvel Studios wants to establish the Fantastic Four as “a big pillar of the MCU going forward, just the way they’ve been in the comics for 50 or 60 years.”

What is the release date of the new Fantastic Four MCU movie?

MCU’s Fantastic Four movie is slated to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.

What are the past Fantastic Four movies?

There have been several attempts to bring the Fantastic Four to the big screen, with varying degrees of success. Here’s a rundown of the past Fantastic Four movies:

1. The Fantastic Four (1994) (Unreleased)

This was a low-budget film produced by Roger Corman to retain the film rights to the characters. It was never intended for release and has only been screened at a handful of conventions.

2. Fantastic Four (2005)

This was the first official big-budget adaptation of the Fantastic Four. It starred Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Jessica Alba as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

The film received mixed reviews, with some praising the cast and action sequences but criticizing the script and character development. It was a commercial success, grossing over $330 million worldwide.

3. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)

This sequel introduced the Silver Surfer, played by Doug Jones, as a new threat to the Fantastic Four. It received generally negative reviews and was less successful than its predecessor at the box office, grossing just over $270 million worldwide.

4. Fantastic Four (2015)

This was a reboot of the franchise, with a younger cast including Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell. The film was a critical and commercial failure, grossing only $167 million worldwide.

Who created the Fantastic Four?

The Fantastic Four were created by the dynamic duo of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Marvel Comics. They debuted in The Fantastic Four #1 in November 1961.

This marked a pivotal moment in comic book history as the title ushered in a new era of realism in the superhero genre. Lee and Kirby’s collaboration not only introduced this beloved team but also established the “Marvel method” – a writing and illustration technique that shaped Marvel Comics for years to come.
