President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration day, like most events these days, will be celebrated online. Due to the pandemic and the recent riots at the Capitol, strict security measures have been put into place including a lockdown for some parts of Washington, DC. This means that supporters will not be able to participate in person. To answer this problem, Biden’s team has created a series of televised events that will celebrate the inauguration and they will even release a special Snapchat lens for the event.
Biden hasn’t been one to shy away from non-traditional means of communication with his supporters. It wasn’t long ago that the team created an Animal Crossing island named Biden HQ to promote its campaign and provide free Biden designs for in-game items.
This new Snapchat lens will transport users to the Capitol where they can snap selfies and videos as confetti falls down the screen. Using the phone’s rear camera will reveal a Biden jumbotron complete with a virtual crowd of real-life selfies sent in by supporters online. A message from Joe Biden welcoming users to the inauguration will also be played.
“This year’s inauguration has allowed us to create new, innovative, and creative tools for Americans across the country to participate in inaugural traditions and ceremonies while staying home to keep everyone safe,” says Christian Tom, digital director for the presidential inaugural committee.
Joe Biden’s inauguration will happen on the afternoon of January 20th which will be the same time the new Snapchat filter will be released.
