It’s been over two years since Hocus Pocus 2 was officially announced, and with a few more months to go before its Disney+ premiere, here’s everything you need to know about the highly anticipated fantasy-comedy sequel.

Hocus Pocus 2 plot

Directed by Anne Fletcher and written by Jen D’Angelo, Hocus Pocus 2 is set 29 years after the events of the original 1993 Hocus Pocus film. The sequel will follow three high-school students who accidentally bring the Sanderson sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world.

Hocus Pocus 2 cast

Original stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are all reprising their roles as the Sanderson sisters. Midler will be back as the oldest sister Winnie, Parker as the youngest sister Sarah; and Najimy as the middle sister Mary.

Also returning from the original movie is Doug Jones, who is coming back for the sequel in the role of Billy Butcherson, an ex-boyfriend poisoned by Winnie on May 1st, 1693, who is brought back to life as a zombie.

Becca, Cassie, and Izzy, aka the three high-school students that will attempt to stop the Sanderson sisters in the new movie, will be portrayed by franchise newcomers Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Lilia Buckingham (Dirt), and Belissa Escobedo (The Baker and the Beauty), respectively.

Tony Hale, meanwhile, will play Salem mayor Jefry Traske in the sequel. Sam Richardson, Hannah Waddingham, and Froy Gutierrez will also appear in the movie in undisclosed roles.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that RuPaul’s Drag Race queens Ginger Minj, Kahmora Hall, and Kornbread Jeté will portray drag versions of Winnie, Sarah, and Mary in the sequel.

Thora Birch, who played Dani Dennison, the little girl who lit the Black Flame Candle and revived the evil witches on Halloween night in the first film, was in talks to reprise her role for the sequel. She, however, had to decline due to scheduling conflicts with Netflix’s Addams Family-adjacent series Wednesday.
