Good Omens season 2 plot details

The first season of Good Omens covers the entirety of the 1990 novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, so the upcoming sophomore run is extra exciting for fans, as Gaiman and Pratchett never wrote a sequel to their beloved book. They, however, did make initial plans for a follow-up several years ago.

“It’s thirty-one years since Good Omens was published, which means it’s thirty-two years since Terry Pratchett and I lay in our respective beds in a Seattle hotel room at a World Fantasy Convention, and plotted the sequel,” Gaiman said in a statement back in 2021. “I got to use bits of the sequel in Good Omens—that’s where our angels came from. Terry’s not here any longer, but when he was, we had talked about what we wanted to do with Good Omens, and where the story went next. And now, thanks to BBC Studios and Amazon, I get to take it there.”

Below is the official synopsis for Good Omens season 2:

Good Omens season 2 explores storylines that go beyond the original source material to illuminate the ineffable friendship between Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), a fussy angel and rare-book dealer, and the fast-living demon Crowley (David Tennant). Having been on Earth since The Beginning, and with the Apocalypse thwarted, the duo are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London’s Soho. That is, until the archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) turns up unexpectedly at the door of Aziraphale’s bookshop with no memory of who he is or how he got there. While Crowley is leery as to why the archangel has come to the bookshop, Aziraphale is keen to solve the mystery behind Gabriel’s condition. However, hiding the archangel from both Heaven and Hell quickly disrupts their lives in unforeseen ways. To solve this mystery and thwart Heaven and Hell in the process, the duo will need more than a miracle; they’ll need to once again rely on each other.”

The new story will take viewers from before The Beginning, to biblical times, grave robbing in Victorian Edinburgh, the Blitz of 1940s England, all the way through to the modern day.

Good Omens season 2 trailer

On June 7th, 2023,  Amazon Prime Video dropped the official trailer for Good Omens season 2. While the trailer doesn’t give away many plot details, the show’s LGBTQ+ fans — who are hoping to see Aziraphale and Crowley embrace their very obvious love for each other in the new season — couldn’t contain their excitement after one particular line from the trailer hints at an explicit acknowledgment of the romance between the angel and demon.

At one point in the trailer, Gabriel says to Aziraphale: “You know what it’s like when you don’t know anything at all, and yet you’re totally certain that everything would be better if you were just near one particular person.” As the archangel is speaking, the trailer cuts to a scene of Crowley and Aziraphale drinking wine together and smiling softly at one another. That scene has since been compared by fans to a scene in the first season where Crowley saves all of Aziraphale’s beloved books from burning when his bookshop in Soho catches on fire.
