Whether you’re into tabletop or mobile games, you’ve probably heard of Exploding Kittens.
Well, it seems the quirky little franchise’s next move is to step into the streaming world. Netflix has announced that it will partner with the popular card and mobile game for a new TV show.
Described as an “adult animated comedy series”, Netflix says that its show will be an adaptation of the mobile game and will launch sometime in 2023.
In picking up Exploding Kittens, it seems Netflix is continuing its strategy of producing more game adaptations like the widely successful League of Legends series, Arcane.
Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, both worked on the series, King of the Hill, along with game creators Elan Lee and Matthew Inman will executive produce.
In a tweet, the cast was also introduced and includes Tom Ellis, Abraham Lim, Lucy Liu, Ally Maki, Mark Proksch, and Sasheer Zamata.

Alongside Netflix’s version of Exploding Kittens, two exclusive cards will be launched and will be based on the theme of the announced animated series. Netflix spokesperson told The Verge that the game will be independent from the current game available on the Play Store and App store and that any saves from the current mobile game will not be transferable to Netflix’s version of the app.
Keeping in theme with the franchise, the Exploding Kittens show will stay true to its eccentric humor with the show tackling “the eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell” with God and the Devil sent to earth in the bodies of “chunky house cats.”
