The United States Postal Service has unveiled an amazing new set of Star Wars stamps featuring 10 of the most iconic droids across the history of the space opera franchise.
Designed by Greg Breeding with William Gicker serving as the art director, these highly collectible Star Wars stamps feature IG-11, R2-D2, K-2SO, D-O, L3-37, BB-8, C-3PO, a Gonk power droid, a 2-1B surgical droid, and C1-10P, also known as Chopper.
Each droid is set against a background representing a setting from the galaxy far, far away. The selvage of the stamps, meanwhile, is inspired by a passageway from the Cloud City, which was first introduced in the 1980 movie Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
This collection of Star Wars stamps doesn’t only honor the fan-favorite droids and the people that bring them to life. It is also a nod to Lucasfilm and Disney’s efforts in supporting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning through the continued collaboration between Star Wars: Force for Change and the global pre-K-12 nonprofit organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).
The 2021 release of these Star Wars stamps coincides with the golden anniversary of Lucasfilm, which will turn 50 this December. Additional details about the stamp collection, including its exact release date, will be announced later this year.
