Today in New York, BMW introduced their new 7 Series and it’s perhaps the most ambitious overhaul the 7 Series has ever seen of its flagship sedan. It’s the first luxury car to get the company’s much-hyped Neue Klasse technology – a move that basically turns the 7 Series into a rolling preview of where every future BMW is headed.

The Tech Inside Is Wild

The cabin is anchored by something BMW calls Panoramic iDrive, running on its new Operating System X. There’s a dedicated Passenger Screen up front (a first for the 7 Series), and the rear passengers get an upgraded Theatre Screen that now supports 8K streaming, video calls, and gaming. Bowers & Wilkins audio with Dolby Atmos is also part of the infotainment system.

Voice control gets a serious upgrade too, with Amazon’s Alexa+ AI baked into the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. BMW says the new system will roll out across its lineup starting in the second half of 2026, with Germany and the US getting it first.

On the driving assistance front, BMW is leaning hard into AI. The Motorway Assistant now handles hands-off driving up to 130 km/h across numerous European countries, and a new City Assistant can manage full address-to-address navigation in urban environments. When it comes to parking the car uses AI to detect open spots and plan maneuvers.

Three Powertrains, One Platform

BMW is keeping its “technology openness” strategy intact here. The new 7 Series comes in combustion, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric configurations.

The electric i7 is the standout on paper. Thanks to sixth-generation eDrive tech and new cylindrical battery cells, BMW says the fully electric variants now push past 720 kilometers (about 447 miles) of range on the WLTP cycle. That’s a massive jump and puts it in serious contention with the longest-range luxury EVs on the market.

Three M Performance variants round out the lineup for buyers who want the sport-sedan experience, alongside M Sport packages for a more aggressive look without the full M treatment.

Design That Commits

BMW's new design language hits different on the 7 Series — the Iconic Glow grille and crystal headlights give the front end a monolithic presence

BMW describes the exterior as “monolithic,” and looking at it, that certainly tracks. The Iconic Glow kidney grille is back, paired with minimalist crystal headlights and a rear end defined by clean, simplified forms. A new dual-finish paint option, which is a BMW Individual exclusive, uses two different colors on a single body, which BMW claims is a world first. And wheel sizes max out at 22 inches from the factory, another first for the 7 Series.

When Can You Get One?

Production kicks off in November 2026, with global deliveries following sometime after. Starting price hasn’t been announced yet.
