Following the conclusion of Kate Kane (Wallis Day) and Jacob Kane’s (Douglas Scott) story arcs at the end of Batwoman season 2, the CW series is adding three new major characters for season 3.

According to a recent report by The Illuminerdi, Batwoman is currently looking for actors to play the series regular roles of Renee Montoya, Jada Jet, and Marquis Jet in the upcoming season of the superhero show.

Described as a former Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) officer who left the department due to GCPD’s treatment of the city’s marginalized citizens, Renee Montoya has been relegated to a paper-pusher. Now in charge of the “freaks division” in the Mayor’s office, the virtuous and practical Renee is on a personal, and enigmatic, mission to clean up Gotham’s streets the right way by any means necessary.

The series is looking to cast a Latinx or Afro-Latinx actress in her mid-30s to play Renee, and since the character is an LGBTQ+ member, “performers who identify as LGBTQ+ are encouraged to submit” an audition.

Batwoman’s Renee would be the character’s latest live-action incarnation since last year’s Birds of Prey movie, in which she was played by Rosie Perez. Renee was also portrayed by Victoria Cartagena in the Fox series Gotham from 2014 to 2015. While Renee’s long-term future on Batwoman is unclear, the character’s description suggests that the CW series may see her eventually become the vigilante known as The Question. In the comics, Renee takes the mantle of the Question after the original superhero, Vic Sage, dies.

Jada Jet, meanwhile, is the CEO of Jet Industries. An impassioned, industrious, and powerful woman who has worked her way to the top, Jada is exceptionally protective of her reckless and at times menacing son, Marquis Jet. Though Jada has a deep past that forced her to give up her first child, she has a good heart and will do anything to protect her family.

Described as “a sexy playboy,” Marquis has grown up in a luxurious lifestyle. Too charming for his own good, he brandishes his power with the attitude of a scoundrel. As a child, Marquis had a run-in with one of Batman’s more dangerous villains and his personality was forever changed, causing him to find delight in the suffering and terror of others, which can only be kept in check by his mother. Though Marquis hides his malice behind humor, he is someone that shouldn’t be crossed, as he is reckless, volatile, and has a tendency for lashing out when triggered.

Batwoman is looking for a Black woman in her late 40s to early 50s for the role of Jada, and a Black man in his early 20s for the role of Marquis.

At the end of season 2 finale, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) revealed that Ryan Wilder’s (Javicia Leslie) biological mother, who was believed to have died in childbirth, is in fact alive. And since Jada’s character description mentioned that the character was forced to give up her first-born child, it seems like she could be Ryan’s biological mother. If that turns out to be true, then Ryan actually comes from a wealthy family and has a brother named Marquis.

As fans can remember, Ryan grew up in foster care and group homes before getting adopted by Cora Lewis. After serving 18 months in prison for a crime she didn’t commit, Ryan was homeless and unable to find a job until she took the mantle of Batwoman.

Batwoman season 3 is set to premiere on October 13th at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
