Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) and the rest of the Bat Team have a new unlikely ally in season 3 of Batwoman.
Dropped during last weekend’s DC FanDome event, a new trailer for the show’s ongoing season confirmed that Alice (Rachel Skarsten) will be teaming up with Ryan and her team to fight and solve crimes in Gotham City.
“By the order of the mayor’s office, in exchange for your cooperation in these cases, you will be remanded in this supervised custody,” a city official tells Alice in the trailer as the latter is being taken out from her cell at Arkham Asylum.
Apparently, Ryan has no prior idea about the partnership, as she’s surprised by the city’s decision to have Alice work for her. “You’re tying my fate to a psychopath?” Ryan asks the city official, to which the latter replies, “Well, more like handcuffing it, but yes.”
It seems that the odd partnership between Ryan and Alice is going to make season 3 a bit lighter and funnier than the show’s first two seasons. Fans actually got a glimpse of that in the trailer, when a baffled Gotham resident asks Ryan and Alice why they are working together when they are supposed to be enemies. After Batwoman explains that Alice is now working for her, the latter gives the man a hilarious answer: “You’re a little short-staffed at city hall.”
The inaugural team-up of Ryan and Alice will be put to test for the first time in Batwoman season 3, episode 2, when a new incarnation of Gotham’s swamp slumming Killer Croc surfaces and starts racking up a body count. Alice, however, isn’t the only unwanted intrusion into Ryan’s life in the episode, as a woman named Jada Jet (Robin Givens) shows up at Wayne Enterprises, insisting on meeting the company’s new CEO, who happens to be Ryan herself.
Elsewhere in this week’s episode, Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson) and Mary Hamilton’s (Nicole Kang) relationship is strained under the weight of a secret the former is keeping. Sophie (Meagan Tandy), meanwhile, finds herself becoming part of Ryan’s inner circle.
Batwoman season 3 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. Watch the trailer for this week’s episode, Loose Tooth, below:
