Burger King has launched a limited-time Hello Kitty and Friends King Jr. Kids’ Meal that includes a toy sealed inside a blind box that kids can open to find out which character they got.
The meal arrived at participating restaurants in the U.S. on Oct. 20 and will be available while supplies last.
There are six toys to collect in the lineup: Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, Keroppi, and a rare golden Hello Kitty. Each character sports a Burger King crown, and some even hold miniature BK food.
A small number of the toys are golden-colored Hello Kitty figures that unlock a complete set of all six; those are available only at participating restaurants while supplies last.
“To celebrate our partnership, a limited number of golden Hello Kitty toys will be included in our six-toy lineup,” said Joel Yashinsky, chief marketing officer at Burger King US&C, in a joint statement.
The meal comes with a choice of a 4- or 6-piece chicken nugget order, a hamburger or a cheeseburger, along with fries or applesauce, and a drink in a Hello Kitty bag. The fast food giant is handing out an exclusive Hello Kitty crown with each meal until they’re gone.
“We love seeing Hello Kitty and Friends get the royal treatment at Burger King, with each character sporting their own iconic BK crown,” said Jill Koch, chief brand officer at Sanrio, in the joint statement.
One restaurant in California is taking the royal theme further. On Oct. 23, the Burger King at 10014 Paramount Blvd. in Downey will set up a gold claw machine, starting at 11 a.m. Pacific time.
Customers who buy the kids’ meal can try grabbing a Hello Kitty toy from the machine, with one lucky person being able to win a 14K gold-plated Hello Kitty figure, the only one ever made. Entry is also available without a purchase under rules posted at the restaurant.
