Netflix has dropped the official trailer for the highly anticipated Season 3 of Stranger Things, and while it could have easily been something that offers zero to minimal plot info, it’s surprisingly packed with details about what to expect from the new installment.
The video starts with Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) getting a surprise welcome celebration from his friends after attending a summer camp outside of Hawkins. Though the whole gang gets to hang out just like the old times and even builds a huge antenna together, they’re clearly growing up and getting into new things individually. While most of the group seems to be fine with this change, Dustin and most especially Will (Noah Schnapp) are having difficulties dealing with the idea that they’re starting to lead separate lives.
Meanwhile, after crossing paths with conspiracy theorist Murray Bauman (Bret Gelman) and their attempt to expose the Hawkins National Laboratory in Season 2, Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) are seemingly trying to jump-start their career as journalists, as both of them are seen inside The Hawkins Post, probably seeking to be hired as writers.
Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery) is also featured in the trailer. He is first seen walking by the pool as some girls check out his hot body. Though everything initially appears to be working fine for Billy, a quick shot at the end of the trailer shows him in the shower with what seems to be something from the Upside Down growing inside of him.
As also revealed in the trailer, Steve (Joe Keery) has a cool new job at a nautical-themed ice cream shop called Scoops Ahoy. He’s also got an attractive coworker, Robin, played by Maya Hawke, daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. Though Steve gets a fun encounter with Dustin at his new job, things quickly turn upside down for Nancy’s ex-boyfriend as he is seen getting jabbed in the neck with a huge needle at the latter part of the trailer.
Unfortunately, that is just one of the terrifying moments in the trailer, as the video ends with the introduction of a huge horrifying monster that people of Hawkins have never seen before. But since Nancy and Jonathan encounter the vicious-looking creature in what seems to be a hospital, there’s a possibility that this monster is actually one of the patients who has been admitted to the medical facility.
The eight-episode Season 3 of Stranger Things, which also stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Caleb McLaughlin, and Sadie Sink, among many others, will be released on July 4th on Netflix.
