Starbucks is bringing back the classic coffeehouse experience with a major perk for customers—free refills for everyone! As part of its “Back to Starbucks” initiative, the coffeehouse chain has announced that all customers, not just Starbucks Rewards members, can now enjoy complimentary refills of hot or iced coffee and tea when they stay in-store. Keep reading to learn more about Starbucks’ new free refills policy, including how you can take advantage of it and save some bucks in the process.
How to get free refills at Starbucks
Starting January 27th, Starbucks is expanding its free refills policy to include all customers, not just Starbucks Rewards members. Anyone who orders a hot or iced coffee or tea “for here” will receive their drink in a reusable ceramic mug, glass, or their own clean personal cup. During their in-café visit, they can enjoy unlimited refills of hot brewed or iced coffee, as well as hot or iced tea—at no extra cost.
This offer applies only to beverages served in reusable cups or Starbucks’ in-store serveware and excludes Cold Brew, Nitro Cold Brew, Iced Tea Lemonade, flavored iced teas, and Starbucks Refreshers® base. The initiative, available at participating locations, aligns with Starbucks’ efforts to revive café culture, promote sustainability, and extend perks beyond its loyalty program.
The condiment bar returns to Starbucks
Also on January 27th, Starbucks brought back its self-serve condiment bar, allowing customers to personalize their beverages with creamer, milk, and a variety of sweeteners. Whether you’re enjoying your drink in-store or taking it to go, you can now add the perfect finishing touches to your order. If your preferred milk or sweetener isn’t available, simply ask a barista for assistance. This revival is part of CEO Brian Niccol’s effort to restore key elements of Starbucks’ café experience and enhance customer satisfaction.
Starbucks’ Coffeehouse Code of Conduct gets an update
In related news, Starbucks has revised its Coffeehouse Code of Conduct, reinforcing that its cafés, patios, and restrooms are reserved for customers and employees. A key change is the restriction of restroom access to non-customers, reversing a previous open-door policy.
The updated guidelines emphasize maintaining a safe and welcoming environment by prohibiting disruptive behavior, discrimination, harassment, violence, abusive language, alcohol consumption, smoking, drug use, and panhandling. These changes address long-standing concerns from customers and staff regarding safety issues, particularly non-customers using bathrooms for drug-related activities.
To ensure clarity, the new policy is now displayed in stores, reminding visitors of their role in fostering a respectful and inviting coffeehouse experience. Anyone violating the code may be asked to leave, with law enforcement involvement if necessary.
