Sonos has unveiled the Sonos Move 2, the successor to Sonos’ first portable Bluetooth speaker, the original Sonos Move, which was launched four years ago.

The Sonos Move 2 maintains the same dimensions and weight as its predecessor. In our review of the original Sonos Move, we highlighted its huge size, which was unconventional for portable speakers even back in 2019. The decision to maintain the size is somewhat surprising considering the trend of tech companies to miniaturize their devices over time.

However, Sonos has chosen to do the opposite, but the decision is substantiated by the details provided in the spec sheet shared with us.

To that effect, the Sonos Move 2 comes with 3 class-D amplifiers that have been tuned to complement the speaker’s structure – it’s an upgrade from the 2 class-D amplifiers in the original Sonos Move. The new speaker will also come with two angled tweeters, enhancing the clarity and accuracy of high-frequency sounds, also, a significant improvement over the original Sonos Move which had just one tweeter.

Additionally, Sonos announced the inclusion of a 44Wh battery in the new Sonos Move 2. Coupled with a 40% reduction in idle energy consumption, this battery offers up to 24-hours playback – a significant increment over the 10-hour playback on the Sonos Move. Sonos Move 2 users can also ow take advantage of the larger battery to charge their devices on-the-go through the integrated USB-C port.

Other notable features of the new speaker include an enhanced user interface that provides users with better controls and a redesigned set of capacitive touch controls on the speaker itself.

The Sonos Move 2 also delivers modern features like support for Apple AirPlay 2, and Wi-Fi 6 compatibility.

Otherwise, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The Sonos Move 2 inherits several standout features from its predecessor, including an IP56 rating that enables it to survive accidental falls, humidity, rain, snow, dust, and extreme temperatures. It also retains the Automatic Trueplay technology that uses the speaker’s far-field microphone array and accelerometers to optimize sound to fit the environment, as well as voice assistant support.
