Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is 10% faster and 30% more efficient

Expect to see them showing up in devices by the third quarter of this year

After rumors of its release, Qualcomm has finally made its newest flagship chips public. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 are the company’s latest chipsets that are set to power premium-tier devices.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is set to follow in the footsteps of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in delivering high-end, desktop-level performance to a mobile device.

The company has announced that ASUS ROG, Black Sharek, HONOR, iQUOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, OSOM, realme, RedMagic, Redmi, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE are expected to release their own Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered devices by the third quarter of this year.

For gaming, the new 8+ Gen 1 chip comes with the full suite of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features alongside an improved Qualcomm Adreno GPU that provides 10% faster speeds and 30% power reduction. The Qualcomm Kryo CPU also offers 10% faster processing and up to 30% power efficiency improvement.

The latest Snapdragon Sight tech unlocks 8K HDR video recording and HDR10+ format while Snapdragon Connect provides users with speedy 5G and Wi-Fi. The processor will also be able to handle CD lossless audio quality with ultra-low latency thanks to Snapdragon Sound.

Alongside the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, Qualcomm is also introducing the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 platform. Devices from HONOR, OPPO, and Xiaomi that are powered by this chip are also expected to arrive later this year.

With the Snapdragon 7, Qualcomm aims to make premium features more accessible. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip will also come with Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like the Adreno Frame Motion Engine. The company also installs an improved Adreno GPU for faster rendering and offers support for Quad HD+ display.

The mobile platform also allows simultaneous shooting using a triple camera system and debuts support for 200-megapixel shooters.

Also Snapdragon 7-series firsts, the chips now offer a dedicated Trust Management Engine and Android Ready SE for safety and security as well as Snapdragon Sound. And finally, it features the 4th Gen Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF and FastConnect 6900 for connectivity.
