As promised a few months back, Samsung has now included the new Apple TV app and AirPlay 2 on all of its newest smart TVs as well as select models from 2018. That makes it the first TV maker in the world to offer such functionality through their products.

To enjoy this new perk requires purchasing any one of Samsung’s smart TVs released in 2019. Alternatively, select 2018 models are set to receive a firmware update that will enable support for the Apple TV app and AirPlay 2.

It should be noted that the all-new Apple TV app will be featured in about 100 countries while AirPlay 2 support will be rolled out to a total of 176 countries. Those who live in the covered territories will now be able to get Apple TV channels and iTunes movies and TV shows on demand.

According to Won-Jin Lee, Samsung’s Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business, this move is part of the company’s dedication to staying at the forefront of offering the broadest selection of content available to consumers.

“As the first TV manufacturer to integrate the Apple TV app on a Smart TV platform, Samsung continues to offer our customers incredible value and access to the Apple TV app experience on the largest screens available,” said Lee.

On new Samsung smart TV models, as well as older models that will be getting the firmware update, the Apple TV app icon will be present. It can be used to access all of a user’s iTunes movies and TV show purchases, and even browse more than 100,000 movies and TV shows that can be either bought or rented. Apple TV+, Apple’s own video subscription service, will also be available.

As for AirPlay 2, it will now allow users to effortlessly enjoy playback of videos and other content straight from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You can find out more through the official Samsung TV website.
