The new dating app doesn’t require you to label your sexual orientation

If you’ve been on dating apps for quite some time now, then you probably noticed that defining your sexual orientation is one of the first requirements to get matches. While today’s dating apps are more inclusive than ever in terms of sexual and gender identity, some people prefer not to label their sexuality. If you’re one of those, then the new Fluid dating app could be the perfect tool to help you find the love of your life.

What is Fluid?

Launched on February 15th, the Fluid dating app is a free online platform for curious singles of any sexual orientation to match, chat, date, and meet new people. Embracing the view that attraction is multifaceted and your preferences can change, Fluid doesn’t require you to check any boxes that label yourself or what you’re looking for.

Unlike traditional dating apps, Fluid uses the latest matchmaking technology and an advanced filtering algorithm that quickly learns your attractions and preferences based on how you interact with other profiles. From this, the dating app starts suggesting compatible matches.

Fluid also prides itself as the first-of-its-kind app that evolves with you as your preferences evolve. The dating app’s unique approach allows you to focus on what matters: feeling comfortable in opening yourself up to new possibilities and eventually finding a connection with someone.

Anywhere you are on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum — whether you identify yourself as straight, queer, questioning, heteroflexible, bisexual, pansexual, gay, or lesbian, or prefer not to put a label on your sexuality, Fluid is for you. The dating app is open to everyone, no matter what your sexual identity is.

By not requiring you to explicitly state what you’re into, Fluid gives you a wider dating pool comprised of open-minded love seekers. The dating app also helps you feel more comfortable in opening yourself up to new possibilities and belonging to a community.

A 2020 study by The J. Walter Thompson Innovation Group found that 48% of Gen Z participants identified as “sexually fluid.” Meanwhile, a separate YouGov survey found that 49% of people between the ages of 18-24 identified as something other than 100% heterosexual.

True to its inclusive nature, Fluid is not exclusive to those who are looking for true love or long-term romances. The app also provides a safe space for people looking for casual relationships or hook-ups, while further exploring their sexuality.

“Fluid is the first app that evolves with you and your preferences,” said Carly Steel, co-founder and CEO of Fluid, in a press release. “Whether you’re looking for a long-term relationship or something more casual, Fluid is there to help you find your perfect match.”

Fluid dating app features

To support your journey of exploration, the Fluid dating app offers the following features:

  • Personalized set of singles based on your location
  • Disappearing chats and matches
  • Invisible mode: lets you check out Fluid without anyone knowing
  • “Save for later” option: means you never have to say goodbye
  • Report and block people easily and safely

Who created Fluid?

The Fluid dating app is developed by Haven Labs and is inspired by Rebel Wilson’s own journey of discovering love.

“You shouldn’t have to tick a box to define yourself or your sexuality. Love is much more complex and nuanced than that,” said the actress, who is best known for her roles in the movies Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect. “I know firsthand how difficult it is to navigate the dating world, especially when you don’t fit into traditional labels. That’s why I created Fluid. No other app gives people the freedom to just themselves, wherever they’re at on their journey, and explore new possibilities in a safe space without categorization. It’s a modern way of looking at love and dating.”

Wilson added: “You can be on Fluid and be anywhere on the sexuality spectrum. It’s for everyone who is open to looking for love and connections in an inclusive space. Whether you identify as LGBTQIA+, straight or you’re just interested in checking out a wider dating pool, we want everyone to feel comfortable using the app and feel like they belong to the Fluid community.”

The launch of the Fluid dating app comes eight months after Wilson publicly came out on Instagram in June 2022. “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess,” the actress wrote in a post revealing her relationship with Ramona Agruma.
