Qualcomm has unveiled its latest compute platform for entry-level laptops. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 is what the company calls its “breakthrough entry-level platform for always on, always connected Windows PCs and Chromebooks.”
During the company’s virtual announcement, Qualcomm explained that the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 will offer entry-level devices with upgrades to camera and audio. Additional features include integrated LTE connectivity, AI acceleration, enterprise-grade security features, and longer battery life.
With the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2, devices will be Always On, Always Connected. This means that users need only press a button to instantly activate their laptops. This is combined with other features that have been adopted from its mobile counterparts.
Upgrades include up to 10 percent faster system performance for smoother operation and multi-day battery life with up to 19 hours of battery life or more. Now equipped with the fifth generation Qualcomm AI Engine, the new chip offers the latest AI-accelerated features including video image and voice enhancement, security, and accurate voice recognition.
And speaking of security, the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 platform is designed to provide enterprise-grade security from chip to cloud. Windows devices powered by this platform are Microsoft Secured-Core PCs thanks to Windows 10 Hypervisor support.
On the imaging front, the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 platform unlocks up to 4K HDR media support and up to a 32-megapixel camera for built-in webcams. It’s accompanied by support for virtual surround sound, echo cancellation, and noise suppression. The platform is also LTE integrated for on-the-go connectivity.
