Restaurant chain Pizza Hut and cheese cracker brand Cheez-It have teamed up for an irresistible mash-up snack that no one saw coming.
On Tuesday, Pizza Hut launched the Stuffed Cheez-It Pizza, a limited-time menu item made up of four giant Cheez-Its baked squares with a crust-like outer layer dusted with the real cheddar cheese used in the original crackers. In true Pizza Hut style, the squares are stuffed with either cheese or pepperoni and cheese, and are served with a side of marinara dipping sauce for added pizza flavor.
The snack was reportedly created with college students in mind. With pizza and Cheez-Its being the two dorm room staples, Pizza Hut wanted to find a way to bring the two together. “We pride ourselves on being the go-to for unexpected pizza innovations, and I can’t think of a more badass partner than Cheez-It to bring our next original menu item to life,” Marianne Radley, Pizza Hut’s chief brand officer, said in a statement.
A self-described Cheez-It fanatic, Radley added that she sees Cheez-It Pizza as either an add-on for larger dinner orders or an easy item for carryout.
Available at Pizza Hut locations nationwide, Stuffed Cheez-It Pizza currently costs $6.49 per box. Starting September 24th, the snack will be added to Pizza Hut’s $5 N’ Up lineup and will only sell for $6 when you buy two or more items from that menu.
According to Radley, Pizza Hut and Cheez-It maker Kellog continue to brainstorm new ideas for 2020, including a potential return of Stuffed Cheez-It Pizza in a different form, new fillings or even a different Cheez-It flavor.
