A blast from the past is about to pay off in a delicious way. Pizza Hut is rewarding loyal fans and former student readers with a free Personal Pan Pizza, but only for a single day and only if they can show a piece of memorabilia that many may have tucked away for decades. The nostalgic promotion is part of a larger celebration of the pizza chain’s iconic past, giving longtime customers a chance to relive a childhood favorite while enjoying a free meal. Before you start searching through drawers and keepsake boxes, here’s everything you need to know about the limited-time giveaway.
Pizza Hut brings back a beloved childhood tradition
The free pizza giveaway is part of Pizza Hut’s newly launched Hut Originals campaign, a summer-long initiative designed to celebrate the foods, experiences, and traditions that helped turn the chain into a cultural icon.
For many Americans, Pizza Hut memories extend far beyond pizza. The brand’s signature red-roof restaurants, red plastic cups, checkered tablecloths, birthday parties, arcade games, and school reading rewards became defining experiences for generations of children. Through Hut Originals, Pizza Hut is revisiting those nostalgic moments while introducing a new generation to some of its most memorable programs.
One of the campaign’s biggest attractions is the return of BOOK IT!, the literacy initiative that rewarded students with free pizza for meeting reading goals.
One-day free pizza offer for former BOOK IT! kids
To celebrate the program’s legacy, Pizza Hut is offering a free Personal Pan Pizza to customers who still own an original BOOK IT! button.
The promotion is only available tomorrow, June 10, and gives longtime participants a chance to relive one of the most cherished rewards from their school years. Fans simply need to present their BOOK IT! pin at participating locations nationwide while supplies last.

BOOK IT! returns for a new generation
While adults get their moment of nostalgia, Pizza Hut is also bringing the reading program back for today’s students.
The company’s BOOK IT! Summer of Stories initiative runs from June through August and allows parents to set monthly reading goals for children in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade through the BOOK IT! mobile app. After meeting those goals, participants can earn a free Personal Pan Pizza from participating Pizza Hut locations.
Parents can enroll their children by downloading the BOOK IT! app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and creating customized reading challenges throughout the summer months.

The story behind BOOK IT!
BOOK IT! has been inspiring young readers since the mid-1980s.
The program reportedly originated after Pizza Hut executives explored ways the company could support literacy efforts amid growing national conversations about education. According to Pizza Hut, former company president Arthur Gunther and marketing executive Bud Gates discussed how businesses could help encourage children to read more.
The concept evolved after Gates considered what would motivate his own child to pick up a book. The answer was simple: pizza.
That idea eventually grew into one of the most recognizable reading incentive programs in the United States, rewarding millions of students with free pizzas and classroom celebrations for reaching reading milestones.
Over the years, BOOK IT! became a staple in schools nationwide and remains one of Pizza Hut’s most enduring community-focused initiatives.
New partnership supports schools and literacy
Alongside the return of BOOK IT!, Pizza Hut is also expanding its educational efforts through a new partnership with General Mills and Box Tops for Education.
For the first time, families can support local schools by purchasing the BOOK IT! Family Meal, which includes one medium one-topping pizza and two one-topping Personal Pan Pizzas. According to Pizza Hut, a portion of proceeds from each BOOK IT! Family Meal, which is priced at $14.99, will support literacy-focused initiatives and the ongoing BOOK IT! program.
