If we’re being honest with ourselves; we all love having a slice of pizza for breakfast, but what we don’t love is that lingering guilt we get afterwards.
Fortunately, we have some good news for you – a dietitian speaking to the Chicago Tribune has suggested that we needn’t feel guilty about pizza for brekkie anymore.
This is because pizza can be a healthier alternative to many breakfast cereals that are currently being eaten in American homes.
Yes, you read that correctly; according to the article, pizza can be better than some American breakfast cereals where ” there’s rarely any protein, healthy fats, or anything other than ‘spoonfuls of sugar’.”
This statement came from blogger and dietitian, Chelsey Amer, who said: “You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories. However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”
Before you go investing in deep-dish pies for breakfast, it should be noted that on the other hand, the New York-based dietitian, Keri Gans, has defended cereals as a potential breakfast option. She told the New York Post that you just need to be smart about which ones you choose.
She said, “Cereal can absolutely be a vehicle for getting important nutrients into your diet to start your day off right. If you choose the right cereal that’s packed with fiber, it may help lower cholesterol and control blood sugar… You could top your cereal with berries, which are rich in vitamins.”
We don’t know about you guys, but we certainly think that pepperoni sounds much tastier than berries.
