Pepsi will celebrate National Pizza Party Day on Friday, May 20th, with a giveaway of its latest innovation called Pepsi-Roni Pizza.
What is Pepsi-Roni Pizza?
Developed in partnership with Culinary Institute of America (CIA) Consulting, the Pepsi-Roni Pizza is the result of painstaking research and innovation to find the optimal way to infuse pepperoni ― America’s favorite pizza topping ― with Pepsi.
The unique topping recipe includes a Pepsi Zero Sugar reduction instead of the water typically used in pepperoni preparation and layering the sweet and citrus zests of Pepsi with the standard spice blends found in pepperoni. The finished product is a pizza with the delightfully sweet and citrusy taste of Pepsi that complements the salty, fatty, umami flavors of smoked pepperoni.
“The concept is quite simple. Pepperoni brings a smokey spiciness and the Pepsi adds a citrusy sweetness,” said David Kamen, Director of Client Experience for CIA Consulting, in a statement. “It’s an intriguing combination we think pizza fans will be excited to try.”
As seen in the photo above, the pepperoni toppings on the Pepsi-Roni Pizza don’t only carry Pepsi’s caramel and cola notes but are also shaped like the brand’s iconic circle logo.
Where can you try the Pepsi-Roni Pizza?
Pizza lovers can get a taste of the Pepsi-Roni Pizza for free at Made in New York Pizza West Village at 561 Hudson Street in Lower Manhattan, New York on Friday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET, while supplies last.
But if you can’t make it to Lower Manhattan, aka the birthplace of pepperoni, you can still experience the perfect pairing of Pepsi and pizza by getting your ice-cold Pepsi comped if enjoyed with a slice of pizza or a whole pie. Simply share a photo of yourself with a Pepsi and a pizza of your choice purchased anywhere in the country on May 20th on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook with the hashtag #BetterWithPepsi. Then, text “PEPSIANDPIZZA” to 81234 and upload receipts that show a pizza and a Pepsi purchase to get reimbursed for up to $3 via PayPal, Venmo, or Digital Retailer Gift Card.
Customers with DoorDash pizza orders of $15 or more on May 20th will also unlock a $5 discount if their orders come with Pepsi.
After its New York debut this Friday, the Pepsi-Roni Pizza will also be rolled out in a number of other popular pizza markets across the country.
Pepsi-Roni Pizza as part of #BetterWithPepsi campaign
Pepsi-Roni Pizza comes to life as part of the soda brand’s #BetterWithPepsi campaign. According to a survey commissioned by Pepsi, 90% of the respondents agree that Pepsi is a perfect beverage complement to pizza. To celebrate and unapologetically reinforce this truth, Pepsi developed Pepsi-Roni Pizza.
Launched in 2021, the #BetterWithPepsi campaign initially released 12 national commercials proving that the most popular cheeseburgers from the top three burger chains in the country went #BetterwithPepsi. And with the launch of Pepsi-Roni, the #BetterwithPepsi campaign is expected to debut a new suite of national TV spots centering on pizzas this summer.
