In Milan today, OnePlus unveiled its latest smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch 2R, as part of its expanding product lineup. This new offering brings several updates to the table, aiming to compete in the crowded smartwatch market.
First up, let’s talk about the build. OnePlus has gone with aluminum for the Watch 2R, making it about 25% lighter than the previous Watch 2. If you’re not a fan of chunky watches weighing you down during your workouts (or, let’s be honest, while you’re binging Netflix), this could be a plus.
Color-wise, you’ve got two options: Forest Green and Gunmetal Gray. The Forest Green is pretty unique and could be cool you’re looking for something a bit different.
The Watch 2R runs on Wear OS 4 by Google. OnePlus claims this watch can keep ticking for up to 100 hours on a single charge. They’re chalking this up to something called a “Dual-Engine Architecture” On paper that sounds very impressive for a smartwatch, especially one running Wear OS, but we’ll have to wait and see how it holds up in the real world.
When it comes to fitness, the updated OHealth app boasts over 100 sports tracking modes. Whether you’re into badminton or skiing (or just walking to the fridge), it’s got you covered. It also claims to track things like heart rate variability and sleep patterns.
I’ve been playing around with the watch for a day now and it feels noticeably lighter. Unfortunately, it’s still not female-friendly in its design or size. It also lacks health menstruation tracking.
That said, I have been enjoying its large display and how responsive it is. I’m also a long-time fan of Wear OS, so I’m glad to see it well implemented on the OnePlus Watch 2R.
If you’re thinking of getting your hands on one, pricing for the Watch 2R starts at $229.99. It’ll be up for grabs on OnePlus.com from July 16th, and it’ll hit Amazon shelves in early August.
