Motorola has announced a new group that’s tasked to research, design, and engineer innovative new products — Motorola 312 Labs.
With its headquarters located in Chicago, the group’s name pays homage to one of Chicago’s most well-known telephone area codes and shows Motorola’s appreciation for its roots in the city. Motorola 312 Labs will have over 30 working areas in the iconic Merchandise Mart in Illinois and will also be working alongside teams found in Brazil, China, and India.
The group, according to the company, “will explore new ideas and concepts and will eventually build prototypes that will “usher in radically different mobile solutions and technologies in the future.” From a company that popularized the folding clamshell phone, Motorola is also known to market shatterproof screens, moto mods, and more.
Currently, Motorola 312 Labs is conducting research on the connected ecosystem of the future, metaverse evolution, and discovering more new form factors and wearables.
The company is also putting effort into advancing display technology as well as AR and VR.
