More and more foldables are hitting the market. To that effect, Huawei’s sister company HONOR has just announced its newest flagship smartphone — the Magic V. And yes, it’s a folding device.
The HONOR Magic V boasts of many things including being the first foldable smartphone with the all-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 5G. It’s also equipped with a generous 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
One of the most important things for folding devices is its hinge. The HONOR Magic V adopts an advanced water drop hinge that’s thinner compared to similar devices. For its displays, it offers a 6.45-inch 44-degree curved OLED panel when folded and a 7.9-inch creaseless display when unfolded.
Both displays are color accurate with support for 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and can accommodate up to 120Hz refresh rate to round out the flagship experience. It’s also the first foldable to have an IMAX Enhanced certification.
The body itself is crafted with titanium alloy, zirconium liquid metals, and high-strength carbon fibers to ensure durability and versatility while remaining lightweight and balanced in the palm of the hand.
Inside the HONOR Magic V are also an intelligent cooling system and the latest Adreno GPU. LINK Turbo X also unlocks fast download speeds for the device.
For imaging, not much was disclosed but we do know that it will have a quad-camera for the rear headlined by a 50-megapixel AI camera. Around the front is a 42-megapixel camera. The Magic V’s cameras also offer three modes supported by the company’s Image Engine.
It’s equipped with a 4,750mAh battery and supports 66W HONOR SuperCharge that can top up the device to 50% in just 15 minutes.
And finally, debuting on the HONOR Magic V is a brand new UI — HONOR Magic UI 6.0 This unlocks Magic Live which transforms the Magic V into a personal assistant. It will be able to learn user habits and behaviors and offers suggestions based on that. This can be in the form of travel reminders like check-in or boarding times. Magic Live is also still being developed for work, health, fitness, and more.
The HONOR Magic V will initially be available in China starting January 18th. Two variants are available, 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB, and both are offered in three colors, Black, Space Silver, and Burnt Orage.
It’s priced at RMB 9,999 (approx. $1,568.57) for the 256GB storage variant and RMB 10,999 (approx. $1,725.44) for 512GB.
