It’s been almost a month since Tribes of Europa premiered on Netflix, and though the streaming giant has remained tight-lipped on the fate of the German sci-fi series, there’s a strong possibility that it will be renewed for a second season.
For one, Tribes of Europa managed to remain on Netflix’s top 10 most-watched titles for nearly a week following its February 19th launch. Its six-episode first season also has an impressive 80 percent audience score and 88 percent critic ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.
Though there have been some Netflix series that were renewed for a second season just a few days after they premiered, the streamer usually waits for a few months before announcing a season 2 renewal, so it’s safe to say that a sophomore run of Tribes of Europa is still in the cards.
When will Tribes of Europa season 2 premiere?
If the series is renewed for a second season, fans will likely wait for a while before the next batch of episodes arrives on Netflix. Because of the show’s massive scale of production, viewers will probably wait for at least a year before season 2 premieres. But since the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic may disrupt filming at any time, the waiting time between the two seasons may be longer than a year.
What happened in Tribes of Europa season 1?
Set in 2074 and inspired by the real-life Brexit conflict, the first season of Tribes of Europa followed three young Origines siblings Kiano (Emilio Sakraya), Liv (Henriette Confurius), and Elja (David Ali Rashed). After learning about a crashed airplane near their peaceful village of Refugium, the trio found themselves defending their home from a violent tribe known as the Crows. The siblings miserably failed and got separated from one another.
Kiano, the eldest of the siblings, was captured by the Crows and became a sex slave and personal servant for the Crow leader, Lord Varvana (Melika Foroutan). Though offered a chance to leave, Kiano ultimately chose to stay with the Crows. But to prove his worth in the tribe, Kiano killed his own father. He was later officially initiated into the Crows and was given the name Tarok.
Liv, the middle child, was saved by the multi-cultural group known as the Crimson Republic after the attack on Refugium. To find her family within the Crow headquarters, Liv manipulated her way through the Republic’s military. But when her plans went awry, she ended up being adopted by the mysterious Femen tribe.
Lastly, Elja, the youngest of the siblings, became the guardian of the Atlantean cube, the item everyone in the series seems to want. With the assistance of electronics expert Moses (Oliver Masucci), Elja found himself along the path to a strange landscape when he accidentally had the cube morphed into a portal after tossing it into a body of water.
What will happen in Tribes of Europa season 2?
Based on how season 1 ended, the potential season 2 would likely see Kiano dealing with the repercussions of killing his own father. Fans can also expect to learn more about the Femen tribe should Liv decide to stay with them next season. The show’s sophomore run may also answer some of the burning questions about the Atlantean cube, including why it was sent over to the Origines in the first place.
