Crunchyroll and Funimation merger: Which subscription should you cancel?

Crunchyroll answers an important question for Funimation subscribers amid merger

Crunchyroll and Funimation merger Which subscription should you cancel

Crunchyroll and Funimation have taken their merger to the next level.

Crunchyroll announced on Tuesday that Funimation and Wakanim’s extensive libraries of anime titles are officially moving to Crunchyroll.

This announcement was posted on Crunchyroll’s Twitter account, and because it isn’t entirely clear which Funimation titles and how many of them will be available to stream on Crunchyroll, one curious anime fan asked which subscription should he cancel, as he currently has memberships to both Crunchyroll and Funimation.

Without going into the specifics, Crunchyroll suggested the fan to cancel his Funimation subscription, broadly explaining that fans “will be able to watch the most popular series from Funimation on Crunchyroll by the end of this month,” with new series streaming “exclusively on Crunchyroll starting in April.”

According to a new report picked up by ComicBook.com, a total of 40,000+ subbed and dubbed anime episodes from Funimation are available to stream on Crunchyroll as of March 1st, with more to follow in the coming weeks.

In addition to the recent tweet from Crunchyroll’s official Twitter account, the merger’s FAQ also recommends dual-subscribers cancel their Funimation membership.

“All new series from the upcoming spring 2022 season will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll going forward and you will be able to watch 80% of Funimation and Wakanim’s most popular existing series on Crunchyroll by the end of March 2022. So, if you already have a Crunchyroll subscription, then you’re all set and can go ahead and cancel Funimation when you’re ready,” reads a portion of the FAQ.

Despite adding lots of Funimation and Wakanim’s content to its library, Crunchyroll keeps the prices of its subscription plans the same, with memberships starting at $7.99 and capping at $14.99.
