Black Clover anime to end its 4-year run this March 1

Fans of the anime Black Clover have just been hit with some pretty big news. The widely popular series is coming to an end as announced on its official Twitter account. According to the tweet, the final episode, episode 170 to be specific, will air on March 30th and will signal the end of the show.

The tweet also included a short teaser of the final episode. The production team also mentioned that a special announcement will air after broadcasting the final episode. There was no further information on what the announcement would be about.

Black Clover became one of Studio Pierro and TV Tokyo’s most famous shows with a fanbase spread out all over the world. And while fans have been shocked by the news, it may well be a very good move for the studio to finish the series as it was coming pretty close to the events of its manga.

To that effect, it would be difficult for the studio to continue Black Clover once the source material runs out. If the studio did decide to continue on with the series they would either have to write their own version of the story that wouldn’t be faithful to the manga (as it hasn’t been written yet) or take a long break and wait for more material to come out. Or maybe bridge the gap with filler stories that, more often than not, aren’t normally well-received.

But with the immense popularity of Black Clover, it won’t be too surprising to see the anime come back. Whether through a new season or maybe even a movie, fans are hopeful to see the return of protagonists Asta and Yuno.
