Serena Williams is officially getting the Barbie treatment, but this new doll is more than a miniature version of the tennis legend. Barbie is honoring Serena’s record-breaking career, business achievements, and influence on the next generation with a new doll inspired by one of her most memorable championship moments. The special release also comes with a meaningful connection to a cause close to Serena’s heart. Keep reading to see what the doll looks like, the iconic victory that inspired it, and when fans can get their hands on it.

Recreating an iconic Grand Slam triumph

To design the collectible, designers pulled directly from one of the most electric moments in modern sports history: Serena’s victorious run at the 2005 Australian Open, which secured her seventh Grand Slam singles title.

The doll meticulously captures her signature court style from that tournament, featuring a green and white cutout top with mesh accents, paired with a crisp white tennis skirt. The look is complete down to the finest details, including a matching sweatband, athletic socks, performance shoes, and miniature tennis gear featuring a racket and ball.

The release follows a unique, one-of-a-kind Role Model doll created for Serena earlier in March 2026 as part of Barbie’s global “Dream Team” initiative, which highlighted eight female changemakers who broke barriers as “firsts” in their respective industries.

Honoring a legacy beyond the court

While Serena first captivated the world on the tennis court — accumulating 23 major singles titles and four Olympic gold medals after being introduced to the sport by her father — her influence has expanded far beyond athletics.

She has emerged as a powerhouse entrepreneur and equality advocate, making history as the first woman of color to own a major venture capital fund. Her inclusion in Team Barbie aligns with Mattel’s ongoing effort to highlight female leaders who inspire young girls to remain involved in sports and pursue ambitious careers.

“As we celebrate International Day of the Girl, Barbie is proud to honor Serena Williams. Barbie has always inspired girls to believe they can be anything, from the sports stadium to the fashion runway to the boardroom,” said Nathan Baynard, Vice President and Head of Barbie at Mattel. “Serena Williams embodies that message through her extraordinary achievements as an athlete, entrepreneur, and advocate for equality. By honoring her with a Barbie Signature doll, we’re celebrating a barrier-breaking icon whose legacy empowers fans everywhere to dream big and embrace their own potential.”

Empowering the next generation

For Serena, seeing her image transformed into a worldwide icon carries personal significance rooted in representation and self-belief.

“Growing up, I didn’t see many girls who looked like me being told there was no limit to who they could become,” Serena shared. “I want every girl who plays with this doll to see possibility—not just in me, but in herself. She can dream big, work hard, change direction, break barriers, and become anything she chooses. That’s what makes having my own Barbie so meaningful to me.”

That mission extends into tangible community support. Through the Barbie Dream Gap Project, Mattel is issuing a donation to Mrs. Rina’s House of Blessings, an organization close to Serena’s heart. The funding will support education, skill training, and leadership programs for children from struggling families in Martin County, Florida, helping spark generational change.
