For gamers who grew up in the ‘90s, few consoles are as iconic as the original PlayStation — and now, you can rebuild that nostalgia one brick at a time. LEGO has unveiled its first-ever PlayStation set, featuring 1,911 pieces that recreate the legendary console with surprisingly interactive details. But this isn’t just a model to put on a shelf: the set includes functional buttons, a plug-in controller, and some hidden surprises that longtime PlayStation fans may recognize. LEGO brings the original PlayStation back in bricks
LEGO is taking PlayStation fans on a trip back to the 1990s with its first-ever LEGO PlayStation set. The 1,911-piece collection recreates the original PlayStation console, including its distinctive gray design and the controller that became one of the most recognizable gamepads of its era.
Created specifically with adult builders in mind, the set is designed as both a building experience and a display piece. It recreates the classic console in a near 1:1 scale, measuring more than 6 centimeters (2.3 inches) high, 26 centimeters (10.2 inches) wide, and 19 centimeters (7.5 inches) deep.
LEGO has also added details that make the model more than a static replica. Builders can connect the brick-built controller to the console and press functional “Open” and “Power” buttons, recreating some of the familiar actions players performed every time they sat down for a gaming session in the ’90s.
Classic PlayStation games get their own LEGO moments
The nostalgia goes even further once builders open the console. Hidden inside are miniature dioramas inspired by two games that helped establish PlayStation as a major force in gaming: Gran Turismo and Ape Escape.
The Gran Turismo section pays tribute to the racing series’ beginnings. Originally released in 1997, Gran Turismo stood out for its emphasis on realistic driving, detailed cars, and a more simulation-focused approach to racing games. The LEGO set recreates that racing spirit with a tiny track and miniature cars that can be displayed as part of the console or brought out separately.
The second hidden scene is inspired by Ape Escape, which arrived in 1999 and became known for turning the PlayStation controller’s capabilities into part of its gameplay. The game follows a group of mischievous monkeys that players must track down and capture, with the colorful characters becoming one of the title’s defining features. LEGO’s miniature scene includes the game’s recognizable red or blue monkey helmet as a nod to those characters.
Both game-inspired builds can be tucked away inside the console when they’re not being displayed. Alternatively, fans can pull them out and arrange them alongside the PlayStation replica, giving the set a little more flexibility as a gaming-themed display.
When can you buy the LEGO PlayStation?
LEGO unveiled the set following its appearance during PlayStation’s State of Play broadcast. LEGO Insiders members will get Early Access beginning October 1, 2026, while everyone else can purchase the set starting October 4. The set is priced at $179.99 in the U.S., £139.99 in the U.K., and €159.99 in Europe. The LEGO PlayStation will be available through LEGO.com, LEGO Stores, and select retailers.
