Burger King is giving its iconic Original Chicken Sandwich two makeovers. Starting July 7, participating locations will offer a spicier Loaded Jalapeño version and a Club version, both for a limited time.
The Loaded Jalapeño stacks creamy jalapeño sauce, crispy and pickled jalapeños, and crispy onions atop the signature long white meat chicken patty and elongated sesame seed bun, then rounds it out with lettuce, tomatoes, and American cheese.
The Club version offers something more familiar and milder with crispy bacon, melted Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and mayonnaise on the same long white meat chicken patty and elongated sesame seed bun.
The Original Chicken Sandwich has been on the menu since 1979 and remains one of the more recognizable items in fast food thanks to its distinctive elongated shape. Burger King is betting on this same enduring popularity in its announcement.
“The Original Chicken Sandwich is a true Burger King icon that’s been loved for its signature seasoning, taste, and unmistakable shape since 1979,” said Joel Yashinsky, Chief Marketing Officer for Burger King US and Canada.
“Through our ongoing Guest listening initiative, we heard just how passionate fans are about this sandwich, and how excited they are for new twists on it. The Loaded Jalapeño and Club flavors are our way of celebrating that love while adding something new to the lineup,” he added.
The spicy Loaded Jalapeño build isn’t exactly new territory for BK. The fast food chain launched a Loaded Jalapeño Whopper earlier this year that delivered crispy and pickled jalapeños plus creamy jalapeño sauce on top of a flame-grilled patty with lettuce, tomatoes, and American cheese.
The item was created in direct response to guest requests via the brand’s Whopper By You platform and quickly became a popular spicy option during the summer.
