What was supposed to be Apple’s biggest AI breakthrough is now at the center of a multimillion-dollar legal battle that could send cash payments to millions of iPhone users. Apple has reached a $250 million agreement to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging the company “deceived” customers by marketing cutting-edge Siri AI features that were nowhere to be found when the devices actually hit shelves. While Apple maintains it did nothing wrong, the settlement is real, and individual payouts are projected to climb as high as $95. Keep reading to find out if you’re eligible for the payout and how exactly you can claim your share of that Apple settlement.

How Apple’s AI marketing sparked a massive consumer lawsuit

The legal dispute traces back to March 2025, when California resident Peter Landsheft filed a complaint that quickly ballooned into a multi-plaintiff class action. At the heart of the battle is how Apple marketed the iPhone 16 following its September 2024 debut. According to the lawsuit, Apple used the promise of “Apple Intelligence” to drive sales, despite the technology not being ready for prime time.

The plaintiffs specifically took aim at the marketing of a “dramatically enhanced Siri,” which was positioned as the crown jewel of the new AI suite. However, the legal filing argues that this version of Siri and the broader AI ecosystem were effectively “vaporware” during the initial product launch.

The complaint pulls no punches, alleging that Apple: “deceived millions of consumers into spending hundreds of dollars on a phone they did not need, based on features that do not exist.”

Apple has remained firm in its denial of any wrongdoing. Court filings show the company maintains it has already successfully deployed over 20 unique Apple Intelligence features, with a roadmap in place to introduce further Siri enhancements via upcoming software patches.

Despite Apple’s defense, a May 5 filing revealed that both parties have opted for a $250 million settlement to avoid a protracted trial. While the agreement is finalized on paper, it currently awaits a judge’s signature. Once approved, the doors will open for eligible iPhone owners to claim their portion of the fund.

Who can claim a piece of the $250 million settlement?

Following Apple’s massive $250 million agreement to resolve the Apple Intelligence dispute, the focus now shifts to the courtroom. A final approval hearing is locked in for June 17, 2026, where a judge will decide if the deal and the resulting payouts can officially proceed. If greenlit, the settlement class will open to U.S. residents who bought into the AI hype during a specific window. To qualify, you must have purchased one of the following eligible devices between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025:

  • The iPhone 16 Series: Including the standard 16, 16e, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro Lineup: Specifically, the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

How much is your claim worth?

If the court gives the $250 million agreement the green light, eligible iPhone owners are currently slated for a base payout of $25 per device. However, that number isn’t set in stone. Depending on how many people actually file a claim, individual payments could surge to as much as $95 per iPhone.

Essentially, the final amount hinges on a participation lottery — the fewer people who apply, the larger the slice of the pie for those who do. With roughly 37 million devices potentially eligible, the final check arriving in your mail (or digitally) will depend on the final tally of approved claims following the June 17, 2026, hearing.

The claims process: Will the money arrive automatically?

While the $250 million fund is officially established, don’t expect a check to simply appear in your mailbox. To receive your payout, you will likely need to take action. According to the Clarkson Law Firm, which is representing the consumers, a dedicated settlement administrator website is expected to launch shortly after the preliminary court proceedings. Once the site is live, eligible iPhone owners will be able to submit their claims digitally.

Furthermore, the settlement plan includes a notification phase where potentially eligible users will be contacted via email or traditional mail with specific instructions and “Claim IDs” to streamline the process. If you purchased an eligible device during the window, keeping an eye on your inbox and the soon-to-launch official portal will be the only way to ensure you don’t miss out on the June 2026 filing period.
