Barbie Unleashes Her Inner Hero with 40th Anniversary She-Ra Tribute
Barbie steps into battle like never before, donning the mantle of She-Ra in a powerful new collector’s edition doll that marks four decades of the Princess of Power™. First introduced in 1985, She-Ra captured hearts with her strength, courage, and undeniable sense of style. Now, in celebration of her 40th anniversary, she makes her debut in the Barbie universe—ready to defend Etheria and inspire a new generation of fans.

Born Adora, the fierce heroine was taken from her family as a baby by the villainous Hordak and raised by the Evil Horde. Her destiny takes a dramatic turn when she reunites with her twin brother, He-Man, and discovers her true identity. With the Sword of Protection in hand, she transforms into She-Ra—wielding magical powers, unmatched bravery, and a heart full of compassion.

Barbie’s take on She-Ra is as regal as it is battle-ready. Dressed in a sleek white dress with gold accents, tall boots, and her trademark red cape, she’s equipped with a winged headpiece and the iconic sword that symbolizes her strength. Every gemstone glistens, every detail pays homage to the warrior princess fans have loved for decades.
Officially named Barbie® Masters of the Universe™ Princess of Power® She-Ra™, the doll is priced at $55 and will be available exclusively through Mattel Creations starting June 18. Equal parts fashion icon and fearless leader, She-Ra Barbie stands as a tribute to legacy, power, and timeless heroism.

Brief History of She-Ra: The Princess of Power
She-Ra was created in the early 1980s by Filmation and Mattel as a female counterpart to He-Man, aiming to expand the Masters of the Universe universe and appeal to young girls. Key creative minds behind her story and design include Lou Scheimer (co-founder of Filmation), Larry DiTillio, and J. Michael Straczynski, who played major roles in the writing and world-building of the original series.
She-Ra has appeared in several animated productions since her debut. Her first appearance came in He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword (1985), an animated feature film that introduced her origin story and established her connection to He-Man. This was followed by the original TV series She-Ra: Princess of Power (1985–1987), which ran for two seasons and 93 episodes, chronicling her battles against the evil Hordak and her leadership of the Great Rebellion on Etheria.
That same year, she starred alongside He-Man in He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special, a festive animated TV special in which they fought off Skeletor and Hordak during the holidays. Decades later, She-Ra was reimagined in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018–2020), a modern Netflix reboot developed by Noelle Stevenson. This critically acclaimed series offered a refreshed origin, more inclusive characters, and a deeper emotional arc across its five-season run.
