An exact Yellowjackets season 2 release date has yet to be announced by Showtime, but the series creators have recently given fans an idea of when the show will be back on the air.
Yellowjackets season 2 release date window
Series creators and showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson revealed in a recent interview with The Wrap that production on Yellowjackets season 2 will begin at the end of the month, with the new batch of episodes looking to debut sometime in early 2023.
“We’re looking into the first quarter of 2023,” Lyle told the news outlet when asked when the series will return for its sophomore run. “We are on a very similar production track in terms of time as we were last season, although of course, we have to shoot an additional episode because we had already shot the pilot the last time. I believe we are going to finish shooting in about February and we’ll be airing sometime shortly after that.”
Lyle and Nickerson said that the long waiting time is necessary to make the show’s season 2 at least as good as season 1.
“It’s a deeply serialized story, and we wanted to make sure we didn’t rush it, and that we got it right. And so, this was the earliest we could accomplish that,” Lyle explained.
Nickerson added: “One thing about the show doing really well, that maybe I hadn’t anticipated, was how much responsibility Ashley and I and [executive producer] Jonathan [Lisco] and the whole team feel to earn the level of affection the audience is showing. “The idea of delivering something that wasn’t as good as the first season was just too much to bear. So, I said, ‘I think that we should take a little more time with this and just make sure it’s really good.’”
The 10-episode season 1 of Yellowjackets premiered in November 2021 and wrapped last January.
What is Yellowjackets about?
Yellowjackets follows a team of New Jersey high school soccer players who travel to Seattle for a national tournament in 1996. While flying over Canada, their plane crashes deep in the wilderness and the remaining team members are left to survive for 19 months. The series chronicles their descent into madness and cannibalism while also tracking their current lives in 2021
Yellowjackets season 2 cast
Season 1 regulars Tawny Cypress (Taissa), Juliette Lewis (Natalie), Christina Ricci (Misty), Warren Kole (Jeff Sadecki), and Steven Krueger (Ben Scott) will likely reprise their roles for Yellowjackets season 2. Melanie Lynskey (Shauna) and Ella Purnell (Jackie), who were both main cast members in season 1, are not expected to return after their characters met their demise at the end of the show’s freshman run.
“As far as I know [she’s dead],” Lynskey said of her character in an interview with The New York Times (via Us Weekly). “I don’t see how she comes back from [freezing to death]. And I think Ella’s contract was always just a year.”
