Will there be a Magic Mike 3? 1

Channing Tatum is coming back to the world of stripping for a third and final instalment of the Magic Mike film series.

Announced last Monday, Magic Mike’s Last Dance will see Tatum reprising his role as stripper Michael “Magic Mike” Lane. The new movie will be directed by Steven Soderbergh from a script by Reid Carolin. Soderbergh was the director of the first Magic Mike movie released in 2012, while Caroline wrote Magic Mike and its 2015 sequel Magic Mile XXL.

Magic Mike XXL director Gregory Jacobs will produce Magic Mike’s Last Dance, along with Carolin, Nick Wechsler, and Peter Kiernan. And with the majority of the Magic Mike cast coming back for Magic Mike XXL, fans can expect other familiar faces aside from Tatum to return for the third movie, along with some surprising newcomers.

Tatum confirmed the announcement of Magic Mike’s Last Dance on his official social media accounts, sharing a photo of the movie’s script, along with the caption: “Well world, looks like Mike Lane’s tapping back in.”

In the original Magic Mike film, Mike shows a new performer the ropes of male stripping, all while using the profits of the endeavor to fund his carpentry business. In the second movie, Mike reunites with his former dancers for a road trip leading to one last blow-out performance.

The first two Magic Mike movies, which collectively earned about $285 million at the worldwide box office, spawned the successful stage show Magic Mike Live. Launched in Las Vegas, Magic Mike Live quickly expanded internationally to London, Berlin, and Australia. And just recently, Magic Mike Live announced its first-ever multi-year North American tour, which is set to kick off in Nashville on April 6th.

In a statement, Soderbergh said that the continuous growth of the Magic Mike business made him realize that there’s still a strong appetite for the franchise, so he started developing a story that would properly bring the film series to a conclusion.

“As soon as I saw what Channing, Reid, and the Magic Mike choreographic team did with the live show, I said, ‘We have to make another movie.’ Mike Lane’s dream of connecting people through dance must be realized,” Soderbergh said.

In addition to Magic Mike’s Last Dance, the live shows also inspired the upcoming reality competition series Finding Magic Mike. Set to premiere on HBO Max on December 16th, the show follows 10 regular guys who are put through the paces of a Magic Mike Live boot camp after losing their magic. As they bare their souls, the contestants learn to perform sexy and daring dance routines with one being crowned the real Magic Mike. The winner will take home a cash prize.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance doesn’t have a release date yet but it is confirmed to premiere exclusively on HBO Max.
