The aviation industry has faced a lot of challenges since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. But instead of faltering, a lot of airlines all over the world rose to the occasion and used the global health crisis as a jumping-off point to improve the quality of their services, ensuring a safe flight for travelers. But do you know what is the world’s best airline 2021?
Qatar Airways secured the top spot in the latest ranking of the world’s best airlines by Skytrax, a U.K.-based consultancy firm that operates an airline and airport review site. The ranking was determined by the results of a customer survey, asking about the performance and quality of over 350 global airlines. The survey ran from September 2019 to July 2021.
This is the sixth time Qatar Airways has bagged the top prize at Skytrax World Airline Awards. Aside from being the world’s best airline this year, the Doha-based carrier also took home the following awards: World’s Best Business Class, World’s Best Business Class Seat, Best Airline in the Middle East, World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge, and Best Business Class Onboard Catering.
“It is clear that Qatar Airways has maintained its high standards of innovation and service standards, both in more normal times and through the current global pandemic,” said Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted in a statement on the results of the awards.
While many carriers have remained grounded for much of the past 18 months, Qatar Airways has remained operational during the pandemic.
“We never abandoned our loyal customers when they needed us the most, we continued flying to get people home and implemented stringent biosafety measures to provide strong reassurance for travelers, all while continuing to innovate to ensure we remain the airline of choice for millions of passengers across the globe,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al-Baker in a statement on the company’s huge win at Skytrax World Airline Awards.
Following Qatar Airways on Skytrax’s list of the world’s best airlines are Singapore Airlines and ANA All Nippon Airways, securing the second and third spots, respectively.
Named as the Best Airline in Asia, runner-up Singapore Airlines also won Best Cabin Crew, Best Economy Class Onboard Catering, World’s Best First Class, and World’s Best First Class Seat.
Third placer ANA All Nippon Airways, meanwhile, won the categories World’s Cleanest Airline Cabins, World’s Best Airport Services, Best Airline Staff in Asia, and Best First Class Lounge in Asia.
