Those other fast-food offerings were essentially patty melts served on grilled buns or Texas toast. Wendy’s, however, is using actual grilled cheese sandwiches—two of them—as the buns.
This innovative burger features a quarter-pound beef patty, layered with caramelized onions, mayo, and a slice of cheese, all stacked between two grilled cheese sandwiches. It seems Wendy’s drew inspiration from bold creations like KFC’s Double Down, where fried chicken patties replaced the bread.
While your mouth might already be watering, hold off on that drive-thru trip for now. This new Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger is exclusively available at Wendy’s restaurants in Canada. Will Wendy’s Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger Come to the US?
There’s reason to believe the Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger might just make its way to US menus in the future. As AllRecipes pointed out, Wendy’s International Culinary Innovation Manager Hayley Kianoff explicitly stated in a press release that Canadians are getting a “first taste” of the new burger, suggesting that it will soon hit US menus.
“At Wendy’s, we’re passionate about bringing bold flavours and memorable experiences to our fans and introducing new customers to our fresh, famous food. This year marks 50 years of Wendy’s in Canada, and to celebrate, we’re giving Canadians the first taste of our new Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger, which is crafted with cheesy, juicy quality in every single bite,” said Kianoff.
Furthermore, The Wendy’s Company doesn’t typically issue press releases in the U.S. for international menu announcements, but it did so for this one, signaling a broader interest.
In addition to the new burger, Wendy’s Canada is welcoming the summer with promotional deals. From May 26th to June 29th, customers can enjoy small beverages, including the Frosty Fizz, Frosty-ccino, and Iced Coffee, for $1.99. This summer also introduces new customization options for Frosty-ccino and Iced Coffees, with vanilla, chocolate, or caramel flavor additions.
