For years, Trader Joe’s fans have begged for locations in cities that never made the cut. Now, that might finally be changing.

The quirky grocer known for Hawaiian shirts and cult-favorite snacks is adding 30 new stores across 18 states, marking one of its largest expansions in recent memory. From Texas to New York, and even two separate neighborhoods in New Orleans, this rollout isn’t just business as usual—it’s a full-on Trader Joe’s land grab.

Among the new stores: a long-awaited location in Columbia, Missouri (the first in the state outside of St. Louis or Kansas City), and two new shops in Utah, one of which will land in Holladay—population barely 30,000.

The lineup also includes some double-down moves. New Orleans is getting not one but two Trader Joe’s stores: one on Tulane Avenue, and another uptown on Napoleon. Texas, already a loyal stronghold, will see three more stores added to the mix. And if you live in Daytona Beach or Myrtle Beach, your summer just got a lot more interesting.

While Trader Joe’s hasn’t released an official statement beyond listing the store openings on its website, the move comes at a time when grocery competition is heating up. Whole Foods is betting on smaller-format urban stores, Aldi is leaning into affordability, and regional favorites like H-E-B continue to dominate local loyalty.

Trader Joe’s, meanwhile, keeps growing—slowly, deliberately, and with a loyal following that treats each opening like a local holiday.

Most of the stores don’t have confirmed opening dates yet, but the Colorado location in Westminster opens its doors on July 25. If Trader Joe’s follows its usual pattern, more locations will quietly open in waves before the end of the year.

As always, new stores mean new localized products, hiring pushes, and yes—lines out the door on opening day.

If you spot your city on the list, get ready. The parking might be chaotic, but the peanut butter-filled pretzels will be worth it.
