Netflix has dropped the first official teaser for The Ultimatum season 2, which, unlike the show’s first season, features an all-queer cast made up of women and non-binary people. To differentiate the new edition from the original The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On series, the LGBTQ+ version of the dating reality show has been given the title The Ultimatum: Queer Love.

The Ultimatum season 2 teaser

Released on Sunday, April 16th, the teaser for The Ultimatum: Queer Love gives fans their first look at the five new couples that will decide at the end of the season whether they will take their relationship to the next level or go their separate ways.

These couples are at a crossroads in their relationship. One partner wants to get married, while the other has doubts. The couples have just over eight weeks to decide to either get married or break up as they are surrounded by other compatible matches.

The names of the contestants are not mentioned in the teaser, but the video gives glimpses at some of the couples’ issues that prevent them from taking the next step in their relationship.

“I don’t even want to say her name anymore,” one contestant says at the beginning of the drama-packed teaser. “She’s like Voldemort to me.”

Another contestant shares, “I’m ready to spend the rest of my life with somebody. But I’m not ready to commit to marriage.”

This sentiment is echoed by a separate player who admits, “I don’t want permanency. I don’t want stability. I want freedom.”

Most of the contestants are pretty straightforward in expressing their thoughts, with one of them bursting out: “If you don’t like my dog, you can get the f— out.”

Commenting on the premise of the series, executive producer and Kinetic Content CEO Chris Coelen told Variety in July 2022: “What’s fascinating is when you actually look at the reasons that people give for not being ready, there are a multitude of reasons: ‘I come from a family background of bad relationships. I don’t want to repeat my past,’ or, ‘I’m not ready, I’m too young,’ or, ‘I need to be financially stable.’”

As seen in the teaser, contestants can date other people in the show in an attempt to figure out what they really want and potentially choose another partner altogether. Of course, there’s always the chance they’ll end up choosing their original partner, another contestant, or themselves. But no matter what their destinations are, it’s sure to be a wild ride along the way.

“We, along with Netflix, sort of made a decision to create a new franchise where there’s Ultimatum: Marry or Move On and there’s Ultimatum: Queer Love, and felt like it made sense to differentiate the two,” Coelen told Variety in November 2022. “There are slight nuances to each of the shows. The shows are very similar in their DNA, but you know, having a different host or for the different versions made sense to us as we talked about going into it.”

Who is behind The Ultimatum: Queer Love?

The Ultimatum: Queer Love hails from Love Is Blind and Married at First Sight production company Kinetic Content. In addition to Chris Coelen, the show is also executive produced by Eric Detwiler, Sarah Dillistone, and Stephanie Boyriven.

The Ultimatum: Queer Love release date

The Ultimatum: Queer Love is set to premiere on May 24th, 2023 on Netflix. Filming for The Ultimatum season 2 ended in June 2022.
