Tecno had a lot of cool concepts to get excited about at MWC 2026 in Barcelona, but that’s for the future — for the here and now, they’ve got the Camon 50 series. The Camon line is known for balancing price and performance, and the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra might be the best example of that, thanks to one of the best cameras we’ve seen in a phone with a mid-range price tag.
The Tecno Camon 50 Ultra is a 6.78-inch smartphone with the usual three-camera array — a main wide angle camera (50MP), and ultrawide camera (8MP), and a 3x optical zoom camera (50MP). The bump in quality looks to come mostly from the move to Sony’s high-end mobile Lytia sensors (the main camera uses the Lytia 700C) and AI processing, which actively cleans up details and corrects color reproduction.
AI does more than just processing. It’s going to elevate action shots in particular — AI will be able to detect and track objects on the move, then zoom in and focus on the subject for added detail. The Camon 50 Ultra can manage that with very fast shutter speeds, leading to crisp, detailed action shots that can be automatically cropped to put full focus on the subject, without you needing to perfectly frame the shot yourself.

DXOMARK gave the Camon 50 Ultra a score of 146, which is the best for any smartphone under $600. So, camera-wise, it’s a premium phone, but there some mid-range components on the spec sheet to get the price down, namely the mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultimate chipset. That’s not a bad chipset, but it’s not on the high end for pure performance.
The 6,500mAh battery is about the size we expect to see for many high-end phones this year, but it can only work with up to 45W charging, which is quite a bit lower — you won’t be able to charge the phone to full in under an hour like you will with many other options.
The display should be excellent, though — the Camon 50 Ultra has a 6.78-inch 2644 x 1208 AMOLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate. That display will now be protected from scratches and shattering by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, a big upgrade over the Gorilla Glass 7i they had been using on the Camon series. It’s also IP68/9-rated for full protection from water, dust, and water pressure, which should make for a very durable phone.
If you’re more the type to lose your phone than break it, Tecno has good news for you, too. Tecno will have a feature that will allow you to pinpoint the location of your phone, even if the battery is dead or if it doesn’t have reception. So, if the phone falls out of your pocket during a camping trip or hike, there will still be a hope of finding it.
While we don’t expect a U.S. release for the Camon 50 Ultra, as always, you’ll probably be able to find a way to snag one online. It should get an EU release, and while exact pricing and availability is still unknown, a sub $600 price tag would imply that the phone will retail for no more than about €550. Tecno will also be releasing more affordable Camon 50 Pro and Camon 50 models alongside the Camon 50 Ultra.
