Taco Bell is testing out a new identity in Southern California — this time, not as a late-night taco stop, but as a coffeehouse.
The chain just opened two new “Live Más Café” locations in Irvine and San Diego, expanding on its first test site in Chula Vista. The concept flips Taco Bell’s usual script, leaning less on burritos and tacos and more on lattes, chillers, and handcrafted specialty drinks.
According to the company, each café features a lineup of more than 20 made-to-order beverages crafted by so-called “Bellristas.” The menu mixes familiar flavors with experimental creations: Mexican Chocolate Churro Chillers, Dirty Baja Blasts, and even a Caramel Apple Empanada Chiller, which is only sticking around for a limited time.
Early signs suggest the idea is catching on. A TikTok user who stopped by the Irvine café filmed a line that stretched out the door, with customers waiting to try the drinks.
The move is part of Taco Bell’s ongoing push to reimagine its brand for new audiences. While the chain has long thrived on its status as a fast-food icon, the café model taps into the booming specialty coffee and beverage space. Southern California, home to Taco Bell’s headquarters and some of its most loyal fans, is the testing ground.
For now, the Live Más Cafés are only operating in those three SoCal cities. But if demand keeps up, it may not be long before “Bellristas” start showing up in more Taco Bells across the country.
