Get ready to play for your virtual life! Netflix just pulled back the curtain on Squid Game: Unleashed, an intense new party royale game that’s about to bring all the pulse-pounding thrills of the hit show straight to your fingertips – granted, of course, you have a Netflix subscription.
Revealed during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live in Germany, Squid Game: Unleashed is the ultimate interactive experience for fans. Developed by the team at Netflix’s own game studio, Boss Fight, this 32-player showdown looks to capture all the high-stakes drama and deadly challenges that made the original series such a global phenomenon.
“Making games based on hit series is one of the most exciting things we get to do at Netflix,” said Bill Jackson, Head of Creative at Boss Fight. “With Squid Game: Unleashed, we’re giving fans the chance to step into that world and compete in the iconic games themselves – with some fiendish new twists thrown in, of course.”
Players will recognize classic challenges like Red Light, Green Light and the terrifying Dalgona challenge, but the game also promises to unveil some brand new deadly obstacles to test even the most skilled competitors. And just like in the show, you’ll be able to team up with friends, face off against rivals, and race to the finish line in a fight for your virtual life.
Of course, this isn’t the only way Netflix is expanding the Squid Game franchise for hungry fans. The streamer recently confirmed that Season 2 of the hit series is set to debut on December 26, 2024, with a third and final season following in 2025. And that’s on top of the already BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated reality competition Squid Game: The Challenge, which is currently filming its second season.
Clearly, the demented delights of Squid Game aren’t going away anytime soon. And with Squid Game: Unleashed, Netflix is giving us the chance to step into that deadly world and test our mettle against 31 other competitors. Just try not to get eliminated – literally.
