It took a while but Sony has finally announced an update to its popular, award-winning 1000X series — the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones.
Following the success of their Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones, this newest iteration boasts even better noise canceling, a refreshed design, and new technology. To take the noise-canceling technology up a notch, the headphone features two processors that control its eight microphones system.
The WH-1000XM5 automatically optimizes settings depending on the environment. To create the ultimate “immersive listening environment” the noise-canceling technology takes into consideration variables such as a listener’s head size, whether your hair is covering your ears, or whether you’re wearing glasses.
Sony has also improved call quality. The company’s Voice Pickup technology ensures clean, AI-based noise reduction during calls. Together with a specially designed 30mm driver, the WH-1000XM5 is designed to create an immersive sound experience no matter the location.
The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones also support High-Resolution Audio for both wired and wireless connections thanks to Sony’s industry-adopted audio coding technology which upscales digital music in real-time. In addition, the headphones are 360 Reality Audio certified.
Unlike its predecessor, the WH-1000XM5 cannot be folded inwards although it can be rotated sideways. But because the headphones come in a larger carry case, this quirk can be forgiven.
Touch controls are available with features like Quick Access that can be programmed to automatically resume Spotify playback. The Adaptive Sound Control can intelligently adjust ambient sound settings depending on your location. It can also recognize frequented locations and remember the settings for the same.
A Speak-to-Chat feature helps to keep operation hands-free and the WH-1000XM5 works with Google Assistant and Alexa for voice commands. It can connect using Google Fast Pair and Swift Pair for connecting to PCs or tablets.
When it comes to battery life, the headphones can last up to 30 hours on a single charge.
