Dust off your white coats—Scrubs is back. And this time, it’s not a rumor, podcast tease, or a wistful quote in a reunion interview. ABC has officially ordered a new season of the cult-hit medical comedy, with original stars Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison returning both in front of the camera and behind it.

The revival will air during the 2025–2026 broadcast season and picks up at Sacred Heart Hospital, where time has passed, medicine has evolved, and the interns are apparently unrecognizable, but the JD and Turk bromance is still intact.

ABC confirmed the news Friday, after Braff, Chalke, and Faison lit up Instagram with throwback photos, all but confirming they were suited up again. Braff even posted a new take on the show’s iconic theme song, swapping in Chalke and Faison’s names in the lyrics. And while nostalgia is clearly the angle here, this reboot doesn’t appear to be a one-off special or limited event. This is Scrubs, reassembled with some new faces expected to round out the cast.

The original show ran from 2001 to 2010 and earned a loyal following with its blend of surreal comedy, emotional sucker punches, and surprisingly sharp insights into medical life. It also helped define a generation of TV “dramedy,” often switching tones within a single scene.

For years, a revival seemed inevitable—if not on screen, then in spirit. The cast remained close, launched a rewatch podcast, and publicly flirted with the idea of coming back together. Series creator Bill Lawrence (now also known for Ted Lasso and Shrinking) never closed the door on it. Now that door’s wide open.

So what should fans expect?

There’s no full synopsis yet, but ABC’s early logline hints at a show that knows exactly where it came from: “Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time.” That’s a wink (and maybe a promise) that Scrubs will still know how to balance absurdity with emotional honesty.

TV reboots are everywhere these days, but not all are created equal. Some stumble by trying to update their premise without updating their heart. Scrubs always had heart. That’s why it still shows up in TikToks and Reddit threads more than a decade after its finale.

With the original cast not just returning, but helping steer the show’s creative direction, this reboot already feels different. It’s not just “more Scrubs”—it’s Scrubs with something new to say. Or at the very least, something very weird, very funny, and maybe surprisingly moving. Just like always.
