Today at IFA, in Berlin, Germany, Qualcomm is introducing their second generation Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G compute platform with a focus in improving mobile productivity and remote work life.
The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 offers new and improved features focused on performance, connectivity, security, imaging, audio, and AI acceleration. According to Qualcomm, when testing the second-generation 8cx, it surpasses Intel’s 10th Gen Core i5 by up to 18% in terms of overall system performance and up to 51% when pitted against a Hybrid Core i5. In terms of productivity performance, Qualcomm’s new chip proves to lead the pack by being up to 39% more efficient when compared to an Intel Core i5 processor and up to 58% more when compared to a Hybrid Core i5 processor.
As for connectivity speeds, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 6G offers multi-gigabit connectivity allowing connection speeds of up to 7.5Gbps for 5G in any region and any key spectrum band. Built with the chipset are the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF, Snapdragon X24 4G LTE modem, and Qualcomm FastConnect 6800.
Offering advancements in imaging as well, cameras are capable of supporting up to 32-megapixels, and 4K HDR. It’s also capable of outputting Hi-Fi audio with virtual surround and it offers Qualcomm Agstic which cancels echo and suppresses noise. Supported displays can come in the form of dual 4K60 external monitors or up to 4K UHD for on-device display.
When it comes to “AI accelerated experiences” the platform supports eye recognition during video conferences, enhanced video conference and privacy, and threat detection that works seven times faster than before.
Lastly, the new chip offers enterprise-grade security to protect the user as well as sensitive information. Features available include remote management and location awareness, Always On functionality, secure connections via 4G LTE or 5G, Windows Secured-core PC, and Windows Hypervisor.
