For over a decade, Oreo’s Cookie Dough sandwich was relegated to fond memories and eBay listings. Now, it looks like fan pleas have paid off because the company is bringing back the flavor for a limited time, marking the first return since it originally launched in 2014.

The cookies are officially set to hit shelves starting December 22, although some reports suggest that they’ve appeared in a few stores already.

Unlike the 2014 original, which paired the cookie dough crème with Oreo’s classic chocolate wafers, this revival introduces a notable change to the base, featuring golden wafers embedded with chocolate chip inclusions.

Much like the limited-edition Choco Chip Oreo from 2016, it evokes the look and subtle flavor of actual chocolate chip cookies. The center stays consistent with the original concept: cookie dough-flavored crème with chocolate chips.

From TWIX’s creamy cookie dough-layered bars to Ben & Jerry’s standalone snackable dough chunks and even whimsical ready-to-bake options like Pillsbury’s Lisa Frank unicorn shapes, cookie dough has remained a perennial obsession in the treat world. And Oreo’s comeback feels like the ultimate nod to that enduring craving, finally delivering the iconic sandwich version fans have begged for.

It’s no surprise then that the comeback has generated much buzz on social media. When food reviewer @snackolator posted a video on Instagram showcasing the returning cookies along with a lineup of other Oreo flavors, it naturally prompted enthusiastic reactions from fans. “BYEEE I am all over the cookie dough ones,” one commenter exclaimed. Another added: “Gonna buy so many cookie dough 🤣🤣.”

Adulting is hard, but at least now we can have cookie-dough Oreos without sneaking raw batter from the bowl. Speaking of which, better stock up while you can, since limited-time flavors have a way of vanishing faster than the last cookie in your pack.
