The Game Boy is getting a second life—in LEGO form.

Announced today at Comic-Con in San Diego, LEGO has unveiled a near life-sized model of the original Nintendo Game Boy, complete with every button, dial, and cartridge slot that made the device an icon of handheld gaming. The 421-piece set is now available for pre-order and officially launches October 1st for $59.99.

This isn’t a flashy electronic reissue or some gimmicky toy. It’s a serious collector’s item for fans who grew up blowing dust out of game cartridges or squinting under a reading lamp to beat Tetris. Every detail has been faithfully recreated from the +Control Pad to the textured volume wheel on the side. You even get swappable “screens” to simulate loading up Super Mario Land or Link’s Awakening, with matching cartridge inserts to complete the look.

And yes, the cartridges fit into a working Game Pak slot, just like the real thing.

While it doesn’t light up or make the iconic startup chime, the LEGO Game Boy is clearly made for display. Whether you’re a longtime Nintendo fan or a LEGO-building adult looking for a nostalgic weekend project, this kit hits the sweet spot.

LEGO has been leaning hard into its retro collection lately with sets based on the NES console, Sonic the Hedgehog, and even classic VHS tapes, but this Game Boy might be its most crowd-pleasing nod to gaming history yet.

Expect it to sell out fast. After all, there’s no better way to say “It’s dangerous to go alone” than with a brick-built Game Boy on your shelf.
